You may be able to double or even triple the impact of your gift to the YWCA through a matching gift program sponsored by your employer. To find out if you are eligible, contact your employer’s personnel department.
Gift certificates for food, gasoline, and other essential items are always gladly accepted by the YWCA to help defray the costs of managing Mercy Home, the area’s only shelter for battered women and children.
Even when deactivated, cell phones can be used by victims of domestic violence to dial 911, as part of their safety plans. In addition to providing these phones to local women in need, the YWCA works in partnership with Shelter Alliance to recycle unusable cell phones, so that they don’t end up in landfills.
Donate a Car
Many women who come to Mercy Home have only the clothes on their backs and no way of transporting themselves or their children to school and work. For these women, having access to a vehicle is an invaluable asset as they work to rebuild their lives and regain their independence.
You can increase the impact of your individual contribution by organizing within the community to collect donations for the YWCA and Mercy Home. Ideas include holding a fundraiser and using the proceeds to buy items on the Mercy Home wish list, collecting new children’s backpacks, stickers, journals and coloring books, and organizing a food drive for the Mercy Home pantry.
Walk the Walk
The YWCA is dedicated to promoting self-sufficiency, reducing violence, and achieving equal opportunities for all people. You can get involved in our movement just by teaching your children that violence is unacceptable and by refusing to tolerate the existence of domestic violence in our community. You can also show your support by attending YWCA events, and talking to your friends, family and neighbors about the work that we do.
