In 2010, law enforcement responded to 4010 reports of domestic violence within the state of Montana, 355 reports of domestic abuse in Cascade County alone, a figure that has continued to increase over the past three years. Every day, the state of Montana sees seven new cases of Partner Family Member Assault – acts of physical aggression committed by abusers against those closest to them.
This unspeakable violence knows no social, racial or economic boundaries and its victims may be your friends, your neighbors, or your family.
The statistics presented above speak to the presence of domestic violence right here in Cascade County, but sadly, they only tell part of the story. Shame, guilt and isolation continue to keep many instances of domestic violence hidden from public view, and for every reported crime, countless more go unreported. These unreported crimes are not counted in any statistics: their silent victims need our help to make their voices heard.
